How to Obtain a Parking Permit 2020-21

Senior Parking Space Guidelines 2020-21

 

ATTENTION ALL STUDENT DRIVERS: 

Welcome Back! We're looking forward to another great year at SLHS, albeit, a different one!

As a result, the distribution of student parking permits for the 2020-2021 School year will be done a little differently this year due to social distancing protocols.

The dates of distribution will be Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. AND Thursday, August 13, 2020, from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

All students wishing to purchase a permit will need to print off and read the 2020-21 PARKING PERMIT APPLICATION and make sure they have ALL necessary documents and funds with them at the time of application. To help with this process, all students and parents need to read the document: How To Obtain a Parking Permit – 2020-21. This document gives all the information needed with a checklist at the end to aid the student.

Seniors wishing to paint their parking spaces will need to print off and read the SENIOR PARKING SPACE PAINTING GUIDELINES 2020-21 form and follow the instructions. There is an additional $10.00 fee for this. The dates to paint spaces are either Saturday, August 29, 2020, or Saturday, September 12, 2020. On both dates, the window of time to paint is 8:00-11:00 a.m. The rain date for August 29th will be Sept. 12th. The rain date for Sept. 12th is TBD.

The Senior Lot Parking Permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis to those students who have all the necessary paperwork and funds. Only seniors will be allowed to purchase permits for the upper lot (Senior Lot). All others (Juniors and Sophomores) will be assigned to the lower lot.

All students, please download a copy of the application, follow the instructions, and have it ready when you arrive. It has three pages, requires student and parental signatures, requires copies be made of several items, and requires information about the vehicle being permitted. School copiers will not be available during permit pickup, so please have these copies with you when you arrive.

PARENTS, IF YOU WISH TO USE A SCHOOL AUTHORITY AS YOUR WITNESS TO YOUR SIGNATURE ON PAGE 2, PLEASE DO NOT SIGN THE APPLICATION UNTIL YOU ARE ASKED TO DO SO BY ONE OF OUR SCHOOL PERSONNEL ON AUGUST 11th OR AUGUST 13th. WE CANNOT WITNESS A SIGNATURE THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN. 😊 If a parent cannot bring the application personally at the time of permit distribution, then we suggest the parent secure another witness who is 18 years of age or older to be the witness prior to August 11th or August 13th.

If you cannot make it on August 11th or August 13th, we will have a table set up in the cafeteria during the lunches for the first three days of school for permit purchase. The student will need to have all necessary paperwork and funds ready at that time, and a signature of a witness 18 years or older will need to be secured prior to applying for the permit. Parents will not be allowed on campus to purchase permits on these days in the cafeteria.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN PAYING FINES/FEES ON DESTINY, WE CANNOT ACCEPT MONIES FOR FINES FROM OTHER SCHOOLS. IF THE STUDENT HAS A FINE/FEE FROM A PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED SCHOOL, THE STUDENT/PARENT WILL NEED TO CONTACT THOSE SCHOOLS TO ARRANGE PAYMENT SO THOSE FINES/FEES CAN BE REMOVED. SLHS CAN ONLY ACCEPT FINES/FEES ACCRUED AT SLHS.

PROCEDURE FOR PICKING UP PERMITS ON AUGUST 11TH AND AUGUST 13TH

Because of social distancing procedures, parking permit pickup will be handled differently from previous years. This is how we are going to handle it:

Students (and/or parents) will enter through Gate 1 (Bus Loop) and circle around the outer edge/lane of the bus loop. Each student/parent will be required to go through five stations, so please be patient, as we will have everything set up to make the process move as swiftly and smoothly as possible. To help expedite the process, having all items needed and taken care of ahead of time will make the lines move even more quickly (using the checklist in the How To Obtain a Parking Permit document will help greatly).

All cars will exit through the other side of Gate 1 as well.

Update

We are no longer selling parking permits in the cafeteria. For the reminder of the school year, students needing to purchase a permit, starting Monday, August 31st, will need to e-mail Mrs. Gonell at gonelld@lake.k12.fl.us and let her know what their school schedules are so that she can book an appointment. Appointments will take place between classes and after school at specific times she schedules each week. Students need to make sure they have an unweighted GPA of 2.0, all necessary paperwork filled out, all necessary copies made, and all necessary permit payments and fines paid, if there are any fines. Also, the vehicle insurance card and vehicle registration must be current. 

If students have questions about any part of the process, they can e-mail Mrs. Gonell or see Mr. Thompson during their lunch time in the cafeteria.

It is important that students schedule their appointments soon and get their permits because parking violation fines will start being issued later during the week of August 31st for any vehicle on campus without a permit. In addition to the fine, a referral will also be written.
