Today's Choice for Tomorrow's Future

Gonzalez, Lynette

Good afternoon!

Here is my parent/student letter:

Dear Students and Parents,

Just wanted to give you some information from our school district. District leaders Monday night provided School Board members with a full overview of the distance learning plan that will launch for Lake County students and teachers on March 30th and will remain in place while schools are closed in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Acknowledging the anxiety some students and parents are feeling, Superintendent Diane Kornegay offered words of reassurance. “We will get through this,” she stated. “It’s a whole new way of learning for all of us and it will come with its challenges. We have a great team here to support this effort. Our campuses are closed, but learning will continue here in Lake.”

Ninth Grade English and Honors English will be using the Edgenuity platform to complete our course work for the 4th quarter. The Edgenuity icon is located in the Virtual App through Classlink. I am sure we will be getting more information as it becomes available. Students will be required to login and complete 1 assignment a day for their English course, Monday thru Friday. Attendance will be taken based on log-in records and completion of the work, and all work will be graded. When students “skip class” by not logging in regularly and completing the work, teachers will contact parents, and where there are repeated problems guidance counselors, mental health liaisons and other available staff will be brought in for assistance. The plan also addresses the needs of English Language Learners (ELL) and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students.

The district’s plan, resources to support at-home learning and a form to submit questions will be posted on a district web page dedicated to the topic. Additionally, updates on the district’s response to the COVID-19 coronavirus, along with frequently asked questions, can be found at www.lake.k12.fl.us/covid19. If your students happen to run into password, Classlink, and Skyward issues, you will need to contact HELP DESK- at 352-2536714.

I want you to know I understand that there will be questions and issues that will arise as we work through this new way of learning and teaching. I will be here for all of you and ask you to please stay in contact with me if you have any problems completing assignments or keeping up with the daily course work. As long as you communicate with me I am able to help you in anyway. Each of your teachers will be holding office hours for three hours Monday through Friday. My office hours will be from 9 am to 12 pm Monday through Friday. You may contact me via email at gonzalezl2@lake.k12.fl.us or through our Google Classroom that we have been using all year. If you know any other students who are not in our Google Classroom and you have another way to contact them please let them know our Google Classroom codes.

Google Classroom code for English 1: w7piubu

Google Classroom code for English 1 Honors: kssgxob

Stay safe and know that we will get through this together.
